Exterior House Painting in Norfolk, VA
Siding, trim, porches, columns and doors - washed, prepped and painted to stand up to Hampton Roads salt air and humidity.
What exterior house painting looks like with us
Outside, Royal Painting paints siding, trim, porches, railings, columns, shutters and front doors. The farmhouse in the gallery shows the order a lasting exterior takes: faded, patched siding cleaned and primed, then repainted in one even color, with the porch trim picked out separately. Near the water, prep matters more than anywhere - salt and mildew have to come off before any paint goes on.
What’s included
What happens on an exterior job, in order
The order is what makes it last:
- Wash. Salt, dirt, pollen and mildew all stop new paint bonding.
- Scrape and sand. Loose and peeling paint comes off; edges are feathered.
- Caulk and prime. Open joints are sealed and bare wood and patches primed.
- Paint. Body first, then trim, doors and details.
- Walk-around. You look it over before anything is packed up.
Salt air, humidity and storms
Hampton Roads sits on the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic, so houses here take salt spray, long humid summers and the odd nor'easter or tropical storm. That shows up as mildew on shaded walls, chalky paint on the sunny ones and peeling where water gets behind trim. Washing it off and sealing the gaps is most of what makes an exterior job last.
When to paint outside
Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for exterior painting here, but work runs much of the year. The limits are cold nights, rain and heavy dew - on humid mornings siding has to dry before painting starts.
